Market Place at Armstrong Park
In collaboration with the Institute of Community Development
The Marketplace at Armstrong Park (“MAP”) grew out of the need for access to fresh foods and economic development in the Tremé community. It was created to generate commercial activity in the form of an open-air farmers market and bring awareness to nutritional benefits of fresh foods, to cultivate an opportunity for local artists to sell handmade crafts, and to provide another avenue of exposure and income for local musical artists. In addition to bringing fresh, local produce and seafood to a community without a single proper grocery store, the goal of the Marketplace at Armstrong Park is to spur economic development among individuals in the neighborhoods of the Treme/Iberville, Vieux Carre’ and the Marigny communities, and beyond!
